Thanjavur

  1. This is the house number of a person who was born there on September 10, 1932.
  2. He is the third son of his parents.
  3. It was  his grandfather's house.
  4. His grandfather was a railway contractor.
  5. His grandfather was a masonic lodge member too.
  6. All the following are about his grandfather.
  7. He was breeding cows,buffaloes, bees also.
  8. He was having big garden  in front of the house and a small garden to the right of the house.
  9. He was a strict disciplinarian. He was just in his dealings.
  10. Every one in that street had high respect for him.
  11. He had many Charkas at home and also manual wooden rice grinders.
  12. He got up early in the morning and performed yoga asanas and also made his grandchildren to learn those asanas.
  13. In the garden opposite to the house, there were two big wells.
  14. There were two Sapota trees ,the tall ones.
  15. The servants from  a village called Manojipatti which is between Thanjavur and Vallam, called by the names Swaminatha udaiyar and Murugan were taking care of both the gardens,
  16. There was a motor for drawing the water from the well on the extreme right hand corner in the opposite garden.
  17. There was a big tub holding water to the level of the neck of 9/10 years old boys.
  18. The grand son with his brother used to take bath under the falling water from the pump and also used to play in the cement tub full of water.
  19. It was very nice. It was a rare opportunity.Even when the grand son thinks of that even now, his heart never forgets to thank his grandfather for providing such a nice facility.
  20. There were many trees and plants and vegetable garden.
  21. The water from the cement  tub used to pass through the mud canals made by Saminathan and Murugan who were hard workers who made the garden green and productive.
  22. There were many coconut trees, mango trees, Tamarind trees, Sapota trees, Neem trees and other trees too.
  23. It was a nice place to run around and play there.
  24. His grand father had three or four buffaloes and two or three cows and two calves.
  25. The buffaloes used to put in their whole head inside the tub of their feed and their eyes were closed.
  26.  They used to take the solid food remnants put inside the tub.
  27. But the cows, they put in their mouth and drank the top layer of the liquid in the tub.

  29. They used to put all the food remains from our house in those two or three tubs as feed.
  30. There was one Mahila maram tree which gave sweet smelly small flowers.
  31. When it rained, it flowed through  under  that tree and the next day when it was dry  and the sand was soft,The grand son used to touch the soft  sand and slowly put little by little in his mouth and he enjoyed eating that soft sand.
  32. The boys in that area joined together in the evening, to play Goli(glass balls) a game called Bendha. The loser had to push the glass ball by his closed fist till he reached the starting lines.
  33. They played foot ball,Kitti pillu( stick and a small round wooden piece. There was a hole made in the ground and the small wooden piece was kept on that hole and with the big stick it was thrown to a long distance.
  34. They also played with the cycle rims and a stick and were running with that rolling rim.
  35. The grandson used to climb all trees and used to eat tender tamarind, bananas and he specially climbed the coconut tree to drink the tender coconut on the tree itself and also eat the coconut.
  36. On one fine day,someone told the grandfather that his grand son was sitting on the dry leaf and cutting the wet tree. On that day the grandson was punished in a special way.He was not to be given anything to eat and must go on fast for three days.Slowly and without anyone 's knowledge his mother fed him with curd rice.From that day onwards he never climbed any tree.
  37. The grandson tried his level best to climb the betelnut tree and it was very difficult.
  38. A cow and the calf used to come in the evening to take bananas from the hand of his grandfather.The cow's name was Shantha.
